What have you learned from your experiences at DLA Piper?

Having worked on a plethora of multi-jurisdictional matters at DLA Piper, from European real estate financings in Spain and Germany to project financings across Africa and the Middle East, I've gained invaluable insights into the way DLA Piper operates globally.

Working in varied legal landscapes has equipped me with an understanding of different regulatory environments and market dynamics. This has not only enhanced my legal expertise but also my ability to navigate and anticipate challenges unique to each jurisdiction.

The exposure to diverse clients and a wide range of industries has broadened my perspective on global business practices and trends. It has also reinforced the importance of being culturally sensitive and aware.

Do you have any advice for students aspiring to pursue a career in law?

There is no substitute for hard work. The legal profession demands a high level of dedication and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Be prepared to invest significant time and effort into your studies and professional development. Hard work is essential to mastering complex legal concepts and excelling in this competitive field.

Build an authentic professional network, do not reach out to as many people as possible just to merely have a contact. Prioritise quality over quantity and make genuine connections with people. Connect with experienced professionals, attend networking events, and don't hesitate to ask for advice.

Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experiences at DLA Piper?

My experiences at DLA Piper have been characterised by involvement in high-calibre transactions, substantial responsibility, access to top-tier work, and the opportunity to take ownership of important matters.

A highlight has been working on market-leading transactions in the energy, infrastructure and projects space. This dynamic and fast-paced environment has provided me with exposure to high-profile deals and cutting-edge legal issues, enhancing my professional growth. On the middle eastern side, I've enjoyed learning about the use of Islamic finance on complex transactions and working with large financiers and sponsors.

Another highlight has been the level of responsibility available. If you demonstrate a willingness to take on challenges, the firm provides opportunities to assume responsibility early in your career. This trust and support has allowed me to develop rapidly, gaining hands-on experience and honing my skills in a practical setting.
