Why did you choose to work at DLA Piper?

DLA Piper is one of the world's biggest law firm and prides itself on innovation, diversity, and excellence. Here, I work with some of the most talented and academically gifted professionals on impactful legal cases.

The firm's commitment to global pro bono work and local community service appealed to me when applying, as I love giving back and making a difference. With over 90 offices globally, I work with a diverse range of clients and colleagues and the work environment is always dynamic and exciting. 

Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experiences at DLA Piper?

Growing up I did not have many positive role models in my community, what I did have though is individuals I did not want to be like. I used those individuals as my motivation to excel through my exams to secure a job at one of the world's largest law firms. I was initially worried about fitting into the corporate world. I navigated this by staying true to myself, seeking mentorship and embracing each challenge as a 'redirection' rather than a 'rejection'. 

My personal experience and network consists of individuals across many borders and DLA Piper was the only firm which comfortably reflected my values as a truly 'global law firm'. I work with colleagues from across the world on deals which impact even on the most remote parts of the globe.

What does diversity, equity and inclusion mean to you, and how are you involved in DLA Piper’s people networks? 

As someone from an under-represented background trying to navigate my legal career, being part of Mosaic (the firm's people network for racial and ethnic diversity) has been rewarding. 

Mosaic has broadened my perspectives, allowing me to understand and appreciate different cultures and viewpoints whilst also being proud of my own heritage. I’ve also had the opportunity to contribute to initiatives promoting equity and belonging, which has been deeply fulfilling. As someone who gets bored quite easily and is always looking for new challenges, alongside my role I've had the opportunity to test out AI software, assist refugees, mentor university students and host events around cultural festivals. All of which keep me engaged (and sane!).
