About Nike
Multinational corporation Nike was founded in 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. The American firm specialised in the development, manufacturing and worldwide marketing and sales of footwear, equipment and apparel. Nike is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon and is one of the largest suppliers in the world of sports shoes and apparel.
In 2012 Nike employed 44,000 people worldwide and in 2014 Nike as a brand was valued at $19 billion, this helped Nike become the most valuable brand among sports businesses. The company name Nike takes its name from the Greek Goddess of victory.

- The "Swoosh" logo was a design created in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland State University. Its Swoosh logo and the "Just do it" are amongst the world's greatest trademarks.
- In 1978, Tennis 'bad boy' John McEnroe is signed by Nike to an endorsement contract.
