Location  London based with some flexibility to support hybrid office/home working

12 weeks

Entry requirements 

You will need to have completed at least one year of study and be on track to receive a minimum of 2:1 ICE accredited BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering or a closely related subject.

Your future academic qualification must meet the requirements for CEng registration with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Please be advised that should you be successful in getting an offer for this graduate scheme, your offer may be subject to a satisfactory medical which may include but is not limited to: drugs and alcohol screening, eye test and hearing test.

What will I be doing? 

Our aim is to give you an overview of the breadth of work that civil engineers get involved with at Transport for London. We understand that everyone’s career and ambitions are different, so every engineer’s journey is unique. 

You will be working within one of our Engineering teams such as Infrastructure Protection Highway Structures, Railway Structures, Geotechnical, Tunnels, or Pumps & Drainage teams. We will also arrange introduction sessions for you to meet engineers from a variety of different teams.

Where can this career take me?

During this placement, you would gain meaningful and valuable work experience which will support you in your ongoing career journey towards becoming a fully-fledged Chartered or Incorporated civil engineer. At the end of your placement, you may have the opportunity to be considered for graduate position through our fast-track process.  

What training and support will you get?

  • You'll also receive one-to-one guidance throughout the programme from your:
  • Placement manager: Responsible for your day-to-day management and support with your development
  • Lead Scheme Sponsor: A Senior Manager who sets the technical direction for the scheme and guides the development and training of those on scheme.
  • Development adviser: Supports your professional development through providing career coaching and career progression at TfL

Assessment process 

You will receive support and information around each assessment stage as you progress through your application. 

Please pay close attention to emails and deadlines provided noting you have 1 week to complete assessments and we cannot re-issue these tests.

Assessment centres for graduates and intern roles will take place from November-January, please note that many roles only have 1 assessment day and we are unable to guarantee additional dates. We are conducting assessment centres in person and virtually (role dependent).
