Register Your Interest - Supply Chain Placement

Function: Supply Chain Management

Unilever is one of the largest fast-moving consumer goods companies in the world. We make some of the world’s most loved brands: Dove, Lynx, Ben & Jerrys, Marmite, Persil and Hellmann’s, to name a few, and are famous for our belief in doing business the right way.

Manufacturing delicious ice cream like Magnum and getting it into the hands of a consumer takes serious business expertise. Supply Chain Management is responsible for the whole process, from sustainably sourcing the raw materials, through the production processes, and ensuring a great product reaches the supermarket shelf in perfect quality and affordable cost. The breadth and depth of influence this function has makes it key to how we realise our vision to make sustainable living commonplace.

What will I be doing?

You could be finding a new way to get ice cream across the country in an energy-efficient way without it melting; transforming the way the world’s largest deodorants factory operates; or implementing new uses for big-data and the latest technology to optimise the sustainable flow of our products to our customers.

There’s always a new challenge to tackle and we believe first-hand experience is the fastest way to learn. Our people have the opportunity to make a big impact every day on a local level, across Europe and the globe.

What do we look for?

Whichever area you work in – you’ll need to demonstrate strong analytical skills, be a proven team player, and have the ability to think both quickly and strategically in order to make the best decisions to influence our future supply chain. Our roles are based across the country, and sometimes abroad, so you need to be geographically mobile. For Supply Chain Technical, you’ll need a strong background in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or similar engineering qualification. We also accept Mathematics, Technology, or Design-related disciplines.

What will the programme involve?

The three-year, development programme is packed with variety and challenge, with the opportunity of promotion to manager level after 3 years. You’ll develop your individual leadership skills by working on live projects or in operational roles which offer you all the experience you need to become ready for your first management role. Over the scheme you’ll cover four to six placements to provide experience in key areas, for example:

  • A Customer-Facing role at the UK & Ireland Head Office in Leatherhead working directly with our external retail customers in UK and Ireland
  • A Supervisory Placement (leading a production team in one of our factories or one of our Head Office operational teams)
  • A Project Management role in a Global, European, UK or factory team: leading the delivery of an innovation, improvement, investment or transformation
  • A Technical role (for engineers) installing, maintaining or improving our operations
  • The Planning placement (either based at our Head Office, one of our 7 factories in UK, or one of our European Supply Chain Hubs in Poland or The Netherlands)

First-hand experience – it’s the fastest way to learn. The Unilever culture is varied, friendly and encourages innovative thinking. We will push and support you to achieve your potential, whilst giving you the chance to shape your career path according your own interests, strengths and ambitions.

Location:

Placements will be in different business units across the UK & Ireland, and sometimes abroad, so you need to be flexible about where you are based during the programme. You will move throughout the scheme every 6-12 months and will spend 1-2 years of your placement scheme in our manufacturing factory operations.
