Machine Learning Scientist Placement

We are establishing a new state-of-the-art research facility in London. With a mission of turning breakthrough science into meaningful and impactful medicines, the research focus is in cellular ageing and mechanisms of homeostasis and resilience, the basis of some of the most challenging diseases facing our ageing population. 

Job Overview: 

This role will be based in London on a Hybrid working arrangement. 

You will have experience in a numerical discipline and an interest in applying their expertise in the field of biological research. We are also developing state of the art tools around the use of knowledge graphs and Machine Learning approaches for target discovery. You will be responsible for helping us develop target discovery pipeline by augmenting existing systems biology and data science approaches to analyse biological networks for novel insights. In this role, you will be expected to operate in a collaborative matrix environment, working with experimental and computational scientists at London Discovery Centre and Francis Crick Institute.

You will be a part of a diverse and global team tightly integrated within highly collaborative multidisciplinary scientific environment at our London site, interacting with leading academic groups and research centres across the UK/EU. Due to our diverse work, projects and responsibilities can be tailored to your strengths and interests.

Responsibilities:

  • Use machine learning toolkits to augment target discovery efforts
  • Use computer vision and deep learning methods to integrate imaging and genomics data in order to link them to disease phenotypes
  • Work with knowledge graphs to improve discovery of novel disease mechanisms
  • Advance the use of natural language processing (NLP) tools to improve understanding of diseases and therapeutic targets
  • Use computational biology, bioinformatics and network biology to answer biological questions

Requirements:

  • You will be looking to complete a 12-month student internship as part of your undergraduate degree.
  • Strong interest in one or more: applying data science, computational biology or machine learning to solving biological questions
  • Demonstrable experience in applying statistical methods to analyse data and interpreting results
  • Experience in coding (python, R, other)
  • Knowledge of biology is not essential
  • Passion for scientific discovery
