Clinical Operations (Multiple Roles & Locations) Placement

Roles Available in Location: GSK HQ, Stevenage, Cambridge

Education required: 

To apply for this placement, you must be:

Currently studying an Undergraduate Degree in Life Sciences, Project Management, Business Analytics or related

Please read the degree requirements for each role carefully before applying.

Other requirements: You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) University for the duration of your placement.

If you have already graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.

Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

Expected Start date: September 2025

Duration: 1 year (approximately)

Salary: A salary of £27,000 (GSK HQ) or £24,700 (all other locations) plus a bonus.

The Roles (4 available)

Role 1 – Associate Clinical Development Scientist

Roles available – GSK HQ, Stevenage, Cambridge, depending on role availability

Overview of the Department

Before a new medicine can be marketed for use in humans, it is necessary to confirm that it is safe and effective. We do this by carrying out clinical trials. The Clinical Operations department has accountability for the on time on budget delivery of clinical trials to the highest scientific, quality and ethical standards.

A role in Clinical Operations could see you working both cross-functionally with other team members in the department and on individual projects. You will have the opportunity to build your network within the department, and, through your work, influence other staff in the business. You will also have the chance to create and deliver presentations. Please note, you may be selected for any of the locations listed above, so please do bear this in mind when applying.

Key Placement Activities

• Operational delivery of clinical studies (including, for example: feasibility assessments, overseeing subcontractor’s performance, recruitment tracking)
• Attendance at and contribution to clinical study team meetings.
• Assist with planning and tracking of study timelines and budgets.
• Co-ordinate key study activities such as study documentation filing, study supplies and investigator meetings.
• Support study set up and project management activities
• Support and assist coordination of the required ethics application of designated studies.
• Focus on study set- up and operational project management and close out activities.

Role 2 – Clinical Study Delivery Lead

Roles available – Stevenage

Overview of the Department

The Value, Evidence and Outcomes department is focused on generating evidence that enables us to get the right medicine to the right patient at the right time. We do this by conducting studies that demonstrate the value of our medicines to regulators (e.g. MHRA), Payers (e.g. NICE) and Healthcare Professionals, optimising patient benefit and access to GSK medicines. Our activities are wide ranging including interventional studies, non-interventional studies, registry studies, safety studies, patient interview and survey studies, economic modelling and studies using pre-existing data sources (e.g. electronic medical records, claims databases). 

The Study Delivery team within VEO are accountable for the on time and on budget delivery of all VEO activities to the highest scientific, quality and ethical standards

Key Placement Activities

• Supporting the operational delivery of VEO studies (for example: vendor assessment and selection, feasibility assessments, vendor oversight, recruitment tracking, operational plan development)
• Preparation of high-quality scientific materials relating to VEO studies (including contributing to study protocols, informed consent forms, study reports)
• Attendance at and contribution to study team and vendor meetings.
• Assist with planning and tracking of study timelines and budgets.
• Co-ordinate key study activities such as study documentation filing, study team meetings, risk review and mitigation meetings

Role 3 – Non-Interventional Study Project Manager

Roles available – GSK HQ, Stevenage

Overview of the Department

Global Clinical Operations is a multidisciplinary department within which the Non-Interventional Study (NIS) Project Management team sit. The NIS Project Management team are a global team that manage project plans to operationalise evidence generation activities to demonstrate the value of our medicines to Regulators, Payers and Healthcare Professionals.  The scientists, whom the Project Management team support, conduct multiple activities across the areas of Health Economics, Health Outcomes, Patient Centred Outcomes, Patient Insights, Digital Biomarkers, Epidemiology and Data Analytics.  

Key Placement Activities

• Build Project Plans in Planisware aligned with evidence generation strategy, resulting in an understanding of the broad range of evidence generation activities, their outcomes and how they fit together to support the overall drug development process. 
• Maintain active Project Plans (timelines, budget, adding new activities) and utilise them to ensure upcoming activities start in a timely manner, keeping scientists on track to achieve target annual budget.   
• Preparation of data files/slides for input into project team & management discussions.
• You will develop your business skills (project management, change management, strategy, finance) whilst also gaining an understanding of the overall drug development process.

Role 4 - Clinical Operations Planning & Feasibility Analyst

Roles available – GSK HQ

Overview of the Department

Global Clinical Operations is a multidisciplinary department within which the Clinical Operations Planning & Feasibility team sit. It is the Centre of Excellence for operations planning and runs as an integrated working group that leverages technologies and relevant data source. The COP&F team supports both Pharma and Vaccines clinical operations to generate robust protocols and study delivery plans with optimised timelines and budgets. We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Operations Planning & Feasibility Analyst to help create data driven, high quality insights and modelling to support clinical operations project and study team members.

Key Placement Activities

• Assist the Clinical Operations Lead in using internal and industry data sources, along with data analytics, to generate insights used for the planning of clinical trials.
• Assist with the site feasibility process.
• Assist the Clinical Operations Lead in providing timely, high-quality deliverables (e.g. recruitment plans, feasibility report and budget) to clinical trial teams to support the clinical trial planning.
• May support the assessment, piloting and embedding of new data analytics and data sources to ensure GSK continues to access best in class solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement in Feasibility and Clinical Operations Planning processes.
