Aero Performance Industrial Placement
Department: Trackside Aerodynamics
Reports To: Head of Trackside Aerodynamics
Do you want to be part of a diverse and inclusive team working together to create the next winning Formula 1 car and help Williams Racing return to the top of the constructors’ championship?
Williams Racing is one of the world’s most iconic Formula One teams, renowned for our teamwork, respect, and engineering excellence. Based in rural Grove, Oxfordshire, we offer an exciting environment filled with driven, supportive, and ambitious individuals. At Williams, you’ll be supported by industry experts and have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies. Your work will directly impact our car's performance and contribute to the future success of Williams.
About the Department:
The Aero Performance Group (APG) serves as a crucial link between the aerodynamics department and the race team. APG analyses on-track car performance, correlating it with CFD data and wind tunnel results. This information is then used to guide car setup and aerodynamic development.
Role Overview:
As an Aero Performance Industrial Placement, you will be at the heart of our Trackside Aerodynamics team, where you’ll play a critical role in enhancing both your own and the department's understanding of the race car's aerodynamics, using this knowledge to improve track-to-tunnel correlation and optimise car setup. APG is a vital link between various departments; this role will place you at the forefront of delivering aerodynamic performance to the track. As part of this group, you'll be involved in the entire process - from defining initial aero requirements to analysing on-track performance. This is a rare opportunity to gain insight into how aerodynamics is leveraged to reduce lap times.
Your Responsibilities:
As an Aero Performance Industrial Placement at Williams, you will:
- Assisting with pre-event analysis of planned track aero testing.
- Supporting in-event aero analysis from the Williams Operations Room
- Analysing data post event, including correlation analysis across wind tunnel, CFD and track domains.
- Use and development of our data-analysis tool suite, collaborating with dedicated software engineers within APG.
Preferred Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Pursuing a degree in a relevant subject such as Aerodynamics, Aeronautics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, or Mathematics.
- Evidence of coding experience (in any programming language).
- Basic understanding of race-car dynamics
- Real-world application of any of the above criteria
What Can Williams Offer You?
At Williams, we pride ourselves on offering more than just a job. We provide an environment where your contributions truly matter:
- Location: Our headquarters in Grove, Oxfordshire, spans a multi-acre complex with state-of-the-art facilities.
- Work-Life Balance: We offer a competitive holiday package, along with access to on-site amenities like a subsidized restaurant, free parking, and large green spaces for relaxation.
- Wellbeing: Enjoy our 24-hour on-site gym, along with free fitness classes such as outdoor bootcamps, Pilates, and yoga.
- Professional Growth: You’ll work with some of the most advanced technologies and brightest minds in motorsport.

Diversity and Inclusion:
Williams is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We are committed to providing a supportive environment and are open to discussing reasonable job adjustments to support your application and employment.
Additional Information:
This job description is not exhaustive, and the successful candidate may be required to perform additional tasks that are reasonable and within their capabilities.
