Production System & Lean Manufacturing Placement - BMW Mini

Plant Oxford is the birthplace and heart of MINI production. Manufactured to individual customer specifications, hundreds of MINIs leave the plant’s assembly lines each day, off to meet new owners in more than 110 countries around the world. Three UK plants have had a part to play in MINI production – Plant Hams Hall makes engines, Plant Swindon produces body pressings and sub-assemblies for MINI, and all this comes together at Plant Oxford with body shell production, paint, and final assembly.

MINI Plant Oxford - Production System & Lean Manufacturing – 13 Month Placement (July 2025)

The BMW Group is recruiting an intern to support the various activities of the Manufacturing Production System and VPS Programme (BMW Lean Manufacturing system) based at MINI Plant Oxford.

What will you be doing?

  • Management and support of various business steering and lean manufacturing approaches, such as definition of optimised Production Systems, Value Stream mapping, data analytics and innovation initiatives.
  • Review and improve the Business Planning process, including co-ordination of target setting, reviewing the strategic business plan and maintaining performance reporting, including key performance indicators, in order to develop the future direction of the business.
  • Development of the long term planning for the manufacturing areas from logistics flow to buildings and facility locations to ensure the correct material flow through the operations.
  • Developing, preparing and facilitating various business strategy, target and process improvement activities – e.g. project management, project team participation, workshops, process development, documentations, trainings, coaching and steering etc.

Qualifications

  • Studying an Undergraduate Degree in Business / Operations Management, Innovation or Engineering related subject and on track to achieving a 2:2 standard or higher.
  • Ideally have knowledge/interest in Lean Production systems and techniques
  • Able to demonstrate proven project management skills and experience
  • Expected to be self-motivated and work as part of a team of experts managing a broad spectrum of complex topics
  • Management of own projects, able to collaborate with the team at all levels of the business
