Classic Car Restoration and Rental Garage Placement
Objective:
The aim of this placement year is to provide hands-on experience in the field of classic car restoration and rentals, allowing you to develop practical skills, industry knowledge, and a deep appreciation for classic cars. The student will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to the restoration and maintenance of classic vehicles, while also learning about the business aspects of maintaining and renting a fleet of classic vehicles, and gaining experience in all the different technical aspects of the trade.
Key Responsibilities:
- Restoration Work: Assist in the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of classic cars, including tasks such as bodywork, engine rebuilds, electrical wiring, and interior refurbishment.
- Maintenance and Upkeep: Perform routine maintenance on classic cars, including oil changes, brake checks, and other essential services to ensure vehicles are roadworthy.
- Fleet Management: Assist in the maintenance, servicing, and inspection of the classic car fleet to ensure all vehicles are in top condition for rental.
- Logistics and Operations: Support the planning and coordination of car deliveries and pick-ups, ensuring efficient service.
- Customer Interaction: Engage with clients, and conduct client briefings on vehicle operation, ensuring they understand the specifics of driving and caring for a classic car.
- Workshop Organisation: Help maintain a clean and organised workshop environment, ensuring that tools and materials are properly stored and accessible.

- Technical Skills: Gain proficiency in various aspects of car restoration, including mechanical repairs, bodywork, electrical systems, modification, engine and drivetrain renovation.

- Supervision and Support: The student will be mentored by a senior workshop technician and the operations manager, who will provide guidance, instruction, and feedback throughout the placement. Regular check-ins and progress reviews will ensure the student is meeting their learning objectives and gaining valuable experience.
- Duration: The placement will last for a full year with the opportunity for the student to work on a variety of projects and experience different aspects of the restoration process and rental business.
- Eligibility: Candidates should have a strong interest in classic cars and basic mechanical knowledge. Strong organisational skills, aVen7on to detail and a customer-focused mindset are essential. Previous experience in customer service or automotive work is advantageous but not required. Enthusiasm, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn are essential qualities for this placement. All workshop tools are provided for the duration of the placement.
bEng / mEng studies preferred but not required. Candidates should provide their CV along with a covering letter and include a minimum of 2 professional/character references from their previous work experience.
