Your Early Careers Program
This role is part of the One Digital Early Careers program which supplies bp’s future pipeline of digital talent. Joiners become part of a diverse, global digital community who are helping to lead bp through the energy transition, to provide reliable, affordable, and lower carbon-energy to the world and achieve net-zero.
The One Digital Early Careers programme provides a range of foundational career experiences and a gateway to an exciting and rewarding digital career.
Early Careers Experience at bp
The One Digital program is two years, comprising two 12-month rotations within a dedicated digital discipline. Designed to give you a breadth of experience and the opportunity to build technical depth to apply to the most complex problems of the future. These rotations will be complemented by a technical development pathway for your discipline, which outlines the technical competencies you are working towards. Alongside this you’ll also complete our Ignite training modules which will support you to build your interpersonal skills.
Throughout the program you’ll have a dedicated support network to provide guidance on the program and advice on career development. You’ll also be a key part of the bp early careers community, with events, socials and the opportunity to network with other early careers from across bp.
Role and Responsibilities
Do you have an obsession with data analytics, statistics or machine learning? Do you love finding exciting insights in deep and sophisticated datasets or optimise processes at scale using algorithms? Do you want to help bp tackle its most challenging problems?
We are looking for graduates who like working at-pace and believe that data can help drive phenomenal decision making. You will be embedded with a dynamic data-focused team. We will help you along your way, but you possess a spark that drives you forward and are comfortable operating with a degree of autonomy.
You will work with businesspeople, other data scientists, data engineers, software engineers and domain specialists to understand the challenges to us achieving our aspirations.
You will dig into data sets and use tools and techniques to cleanse, rationalise and infer meaning out of data.
As the data-centric culture takes root, you'll continue to partner with the users of the data to expose new insights and relate data to other areas.
Requirements
To apply for this role, you will need:
- to be in your final year of study and be on track for a 2:1, or have completed your degree with a 2:1, or equivalent
- a degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics or a STEM field with strong data modelling, data analysis or statistical components.
- You are also expected to have strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English. Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.
Desirable skills
Experience of programming languages (e.g. Python) and data science libraries in the Python ecosystem. Exposure to data manipulation library like Pandas, machine learning library like Scikit-Learn and plotting libraries like Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly.
As this is a technical role, if you are successful in progressing to the on-demand video interview stage a short coding test will follow the interview. The output from the test will be reviewed alongside the other elements of the assessment process; the test is not pass or fail.

Please note: Location will depend on business needs and can change for each rotation on your Early Careers development program, as you move between roles. If you are required to relocate during the program, depending on distance, you may be offered relocation assistance.

Please note the following when applying:

Reward
- Starting Salary: £39,100
- Sign on Bonus: £3,000 (One off payment, subject to tax and national insurance)
- Wellbeing Allowance: Claim up to £1,500 each calendar year (subject to tax and national insurance) for products and services that contribute to physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing
- Flexible Benefits: In addition to your base salary, you’ll receive a flexible allowance (currently 20% of your base salary) that you can take as cash or use to buy a range of extra benefits, such as a pension, critical illness, dental care, personal accident and travel insurance, and our cycle to work scheme.
- Private Medical Insurance: We’ll pay for private healthcare, and you only pay an income tax charge.
- bp Share Plans: You can choose to take part in our share plan and buy bp shares every month.
