Graduate Process and Process Safety Engineering Programme 2025 (Aberdeen)

Join Our Early Careers Programme

Are you ready to start your engineering career with a company that’s leading the way in the energy transition? Our One Engineering Early Careers Programme at BP is designed for ambitious graduates who are ready to take on challenges, build transferable skills, and help shape the future of energy. This programme will give you the opportunity to develop as a well-rounded engineer, while contributing to some of the most exciting and complex projects in the industry.

What You Can Expect from the Programme

This three-year programme combines on-the-job experience, world-class training, and specialist support to help you grow into a fully qualified and competent professional. As a graduate in Process and Process Safety Engineering (P&PSE), you will rotate through different roles, gaining exposure to various aspects of the discipline and helping you progress toward becoming a chartered engineer with the Institution of Chemical Engineers.

Alongside these rotations, you’ll follow a technical development pathway, focusing on building the skills you need for your future career. You will also complete our Ignite training modules, which will help you develop the soft skills needed to succeed in any engineering role.

You’ll be part of a dedicated support network, with mentorship and career guidance to help you reach your goals. You will also have the opportunity to connect with fellow early career professionals at BP through networking events and social activities.

Role and Responsibilities

At BP, we’re tackling the energy challenge of a generation: how to meet growing demand for energy while reducing carbon emissions. Process and Process Safety Engineering is at the heart of this challenge, supporting everything from oil and gas production to the development of sustainable solutions like hydrogen, carbon capture, and green fuels.

As part of your role, you’ll work across the entire lifecycle of major energy projects, from developing business cases and conceptual designs to optimising, building, commissioning, and operating energy facilities. You’ll also be involved in pioneering innovations that will drive future success.

Above all, safety is a top priority. You’ll use your chemical engineering skills to ensure the safety of our operations, constantly looking for ways to mitigate risks and make our facilities safer and more environmentally friendly.

What You Will Do:

  • Apply your chemical engineering expertise to solve real-world problems in technology development, projects, and operations.
  • Develop a strong focus on safety, always striving to identify safer solutions and mitigate risks.
  • Take responsibility for reducing the environmental impact of the facilities you work on.
  • Build strong working relationships within BP and with external partners.

If you're passionate about solving the world's toughest energy challenges and want to make a real difference, this is your chance to join an exciting, forward-thinking team.

Requirements

To apply for this role, you will need:

  • to be in your final year of study and be on track for a 2:1, or have completed your degree with a 2:1
  • a master’s degree in Chemical, Process or Biochemical Engineering, or a bachelor’s degree in one of these core subjects supplemented by a post-graduate qualification in a relevant topic such as Advanced Chemical Engineering, Process Safety, Petroleum Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or studies related to sustainability or low carbon energy
  • Be committed to be Scotland based for the duration of the graduate programme and remaining in a Scotland based role when the graduate programme has finished.

You are also expected to have strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English. Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.

Location

You will be in our main Scotland hub – Aberdeen. Location for this role will be Scotland based for the duration of the graduate programme and all rotations will completed in Scotland and/or offshore in Scotland unless there is a business need to align you with an activity in another UK location.

In the longer term, P&PS engineers can develop into many roles. Some prefer to stay in engineering and may become subject matter experts or advisers, some prefer to work on projects and may become project managers, some prefer operations and may become facilities managers.
