Electrical Summer Internship 2025

Overview of the Internship

This 11-week summer internship with bp offers hands-on experience, providing a platform for you to develop technical expertise while managing real projects to completion. You’ll work with a dedicated line manager and a buddy from our early careers programme for guidance. In addition to your role, you’ll attend intern events, participate in training sessions, and network with leaders, giving you a comprehensive look at life and growth opportunities within bp.

Role and Responsibilities

As an Electrical Engineer Intern at bp, you’ll support the power systems that fuel bp’s diverse operations. Electrical power is essential across all bp businesses, supplying energy for production plants, renewable wind and solar sites, and onshore/offshore hydrocarbon facilities. As part of the Electrical Engineering team, you will:

  • Maintain and Improve Existing Systems: Ensure safe, reliable operations by managing resources and conducting maintenance, repairs, and enhancements on electrical systems for bp's production facilities.
  • Design Electrical Systems for New Projects: For new energy sites, such as renewable wind and solar power installations, you’ll model and design electrical systems from power generation to end-use, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Your specific duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting Net Zero Transition Projects: Contributing to initiatives that support bp’s commitment to net zero, such as:
  • Developing 50GW of net renewable energy capacity
  • Leading major electrification projects for partnerships with 10-15 cities worldwide
  • Reducing carbon emissions in upstream oil and gas production by 35-40%
  • Collaborating Across Teams: Working with bp's teams and external partners, fostering cross-functional collaboration to achieve excellence.
  • Demonstrating Safety and Dedication: Upholding bp’s values with a strong focus on safety and operational integrity.

Why bp?

This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain skills in electrical engineering within the energy sector, working on projects that support bp’s ambitious climate goals. As an intern, you’ll deepen your understanding of power systems, develop your technical and problem-solving skills, and contribute to bp’s path toward a sustainable energy future. Join bp and explore where a career in electrical engineering could lead.
