Petroleum & Reservoir Engineering - Summer Internship 2025 (Sunbury)

About the Internship

This is your opportunity to spend 11 weeks with bp, working directly on impactful projects that you’ll lead from start to finish. Based in one team, you’ll gain real, hands-on experience, with the support of a dedicated line manager and a buddy from our early careers community. Throughout the internship, you’ll also have the chance to attend social events and training sessions, helping you grow both professionally and personally. Our programme is carefully designed to build your technical expertise while giving you a true sense of what it’s like to work at bp.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Petroleum & Reservoir Engineering (PERE) intern, you’ll join bp’s Subsurface team within the Production & Operations (P&O) business group. P&O drives the development of bp's oil and gas assets worldwide, focusing on exploration, production, and refining. Our team’s vision is to be at the forefront of safe, efficient, and sustainable hydrocarbon production, and we actively integrate across bp’s value chain to tackle the industry’s biggest challenges. Our digitally-driven, agile Subsurface team plays a vital role in identifying, developing, and managing a portfolio of high-value, low-carbon resources.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you’ll get a chance to support bp’s goal of achieving net zero and improving people’s lives. You’ll work as a Reservoir Engineer, where you’ll apply skills in geoscience, rock and fluid analysis, pressure evaluation, and well engineering. Your work will help understand and manage how hydrocarbon reservoirs or storage facilities perform, supporting the planning of new field developments or optimising economic recovery from existing resources. Your experiences may include:

  • Well and Area Performance: Participate in reviews, analyse reservoir performance, plan wells, and contribute to effective flood management.
  • Reservoir and Storage Management: Help set strategies for resource depletion, generate options for field development, and estimate reserves.
  • Reservoir and Storage Simulation: Work on history matching, build models, and develop solutions using data analytics.

Beyond the Role

At bp, we value holistic development and encourage you to get involved beyond your immediate role. You’ll have the opportunity to support local community initiatives, engage with bp’s Business Resourcing Groups, and spend time on activities that interest you.

Why bp?

This internship not only enhances your technical skills but also provides a pathway to lasting professional connections and valuable experience in a global energy company that’s committed to a more sustainable future.
