Petrophysics - Summer Internship 2025

About the Internship

Embark on an 11-week journey with bp, where you’ll work directly on impactful projects, managing them from start to finish. Based within one team, you’ll experience real-world challenges and learn from experienced professionals, with guidance from a dedicated line manager and a buddy from our early careers community. The programme includes training sessions, social events with fellow interns, and networking opportunities with bp leaders—all aimed at developing both your technical and interpersonal skills. This internship is crafted to help you gain expertise and experience life at bp.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Petrophysics Summer Intern, you’ll be at the heart of bp’s mission to meet the world’s growing energy needs. Petrophysicists are essential to determining the volume, distribution, and flow characteristics of oil and gas in our reservoirs. In this role, you’ll investigate the quality of reservoir rocks by analysing key properties, such as porosity, permeability, and fluid interactions within the reservoir matrix.

This work involves integrating direct measurements, such as those from core and fluid samples, with data from advanced logging tools that measure nuclear, electrical, and acoustic responses of rocks. The integrated results provide critical insights for predicting the volume and distribution of hydrocarbons and optimising extraction methods.

As part of bp’s multi-disciplinary and multicultural subsurface team, you’ll contribute to global exploration, new field development, or active production assets. You’ll collaborate with geoscientists, reservoir and drilling engineers, commercial teams, and other specialists to turn your evaluations into actionable business decisions.

Why bp?

Joining bp as a Petrophysicist intern means becoming part of an organisation dedicated to fostering a diverse, energetic, and inclusive culture that values open and constructive feedback. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your numerical skills, enthusiasm, and commitment to real projects that make a difference. At bp, we believe in helping you grow both professionally and personally while supporting a sustainable future.
