We are looking for an enthusiastic Applied Controls Placement Student to join our team in Calibration development, for Engine Business Unit in Darlington. This product focused position tailors’ electronic systems for Cummins products. You will support the team configure (tune), integrate, test, and release software, electronic control units, tools, sensors, actuators, and harnesses into an electronic system that controls the operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications.

During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential!

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence 1 august 2025.

External Qualifications and Competencies

To be successful in this role you will need the following: 

  • To be currently studying a STEM subject at degree level with an allowance for a 12-month industry placement
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude for new product development and continuous improvement
  • Ability to follow structured problem-solving processes to resolve issues.
  • Knowledge of application of Engineering Standards and ability to produce high quality, concise technical documentation
  • Experience or knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink.

Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

  • You will work closely with engineers in the team to learn and then support them with:
  • Understanding OEM electronic requirements and developing engine calibration (tuning) using simulation toolsets. 
  • Verification and validation test planning and execution for developed calibration and engine controller.
  • Analysing data from test bench and/or vehicles and reporting results, issues, and next steps to the key stakeholders.
  • Technical documentation for design reviews part of product development.
  • Work in cross-functional teams to development products and resolve issues using industry standard problem-solving techniques.
