Asset Management Engineer Undergraduate Industrial Placement

About the role

Asset Operation involves the management and optimization of physical assets to ensure their efficient and reliable operation. It includes activities such as monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance. Collaboration with stakeholders is crucial for effective asset operation. Its goal is to maximize asset availability and performance while minimizing costs and risks.

As a graduate on our Asset Management Engineer scheme, you’ll be helping invest in and look after National Grid by maintaining and upgrading our assets.

You’ll be contributing to big, exciting projects with real-life applications. For example, you might be working on building a substation that will provide electricity for hundreds of thousands of people. Or perhaps on an under-the-sea interconnector that joins us to the European electricity grid.

We’re also spending £24 billion over the next five years on sustainable energy, and are one of the FTSE’s biggest investors in the delivery of Net Zero.

Some of your key accountabilities will include:

  • You’ll be working on-site alongside contractors and colleagues, fault fixing, raising issues, and discussing design flaws.
  • Be part of a long chain of communication and will need to be able to reliably absorb and share information with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Gain knowledge of the electrical transmission system and you’ll be working closely (mainly on projects) in teams of five or six, with other more experienced members of staff.
  • You will be expected to play your part in creating a safe working environment to share concerns or offer your opinion about potentially risky situations.
  • Produce a variety of reports, presentations and Excel spreadsheets.
