At Siemens Healthineers Magnet Technology in Eynsham, Oxford, we are a world leader in the design and manufacture of superconducting magnetic resonance imaging magnets for medical applications and we take enormous pride in developing truly innovative technology to produce superconducting magnet solutions of exceptional quality. Apply now for the position of R&D Physical Science Intern and you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in one of the world's leading healthcare companies. Our Magnet Technology factory in Eynsham, Oxford, is at the forefront of manufacturing high-tech medical imaging equipment used by healthcare professionals worldwide. As we plan for our move to our new factory, the R&D team have an important role to play in equipping us for the future.

This 12-month internship placement will provide you with the opportunity to support and develop the design and manufacture of our superconducting magnets, and a chance to make a meaningful contribution to our team. We are looking for students with an Engineering or Scientific background who want to take on real responsibility during their year in industry, and who want to take advantage of a structured Intern Development Programme.

Your role:

  • You will work as part of a team to support and develop various aspects of superconducting magnet design and manufacture, in disciplines typically, but not limited to, physics, natural sciences, and materials science.
  • You will be working independently on a design or research project to develop technologies which can be applied to the next generation of superconducting magnets.
  • You will be researching technical literature, carrying out experiments, analysing results and report on conclusions, both in written reports and verbally in meetings.

All of our Interns also participate in our 12 month Intern development programme teaching softer skills such as communication, teamwork, and commercial awareness alongside the role.

About you:

  • You will be an undergraduate student currently studying a towards a Bachelors degree in Physics, Natural Sciences, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering and completing a 12 month industrial placement or sandwich year as part of your degree.
  • You should have an inherent interest in applied sciences and the physical and technical world around us.
  • You will have good problem solving and reasoning skills, and an aptitude for learning new skills.
  • You will have strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have a team oriented approach, but also able to work independently.
  • You should have a practical and hands-on approach.
