Global Health Placement

Are you looking to gain valuable real world work experience and help positively impact the lives of others?

Role 1 – ViiV Global Health Outcomes

Overview of the Department

Degree requirements – Economics, Health Economics, Biomedical Sciences, Life-Sciences, Engineering

ViiV Healthcare Global Health Outcomes is primarily responsible for health economics and research activities across the business. The team is positioned within Global Medical Sciences and works collaboratively across R&D, Global Medical and Commercial to support product launches from target selection, through launch and all the way to the integration into clinical practice. There are 15 people in the team whose focuses differ for medicines, pipeline/R&D, and the regions.

  • Internal stakeholder mapping and networking.
  • Project managing health economics and outcomes research projects.
  • Feasibility assessment of research projects.

  • Analysis of economic models and data.
  • Team engagement, including Workplace posts, intranet site development and maintenance, and drafting and distributing team newsletter.

Global Health Access

Overview of the Department

The Global Health Access team works to secure access to Global Health innovations that are developed via GSK's Global Health R&D pipeline for populations in low and lower-middle income countries. These innovations address significant needs within these countries and are focused on the management of Malaria, Tuberculosis, and anti-microbial resistance. The team supports planning and decision-making for R&D activities and later in development, working with our external partners to support adoption of innovations in target markets and populations. The complex nature of developing new innovations and providing access means the Global Health Access team serves a number of different roles including planning, partnerships, supply, scientific affairs & public health and policy & advocacy.

Key Placement Activities

  • Support the design and implementation of projects to assist in planning for and creating access to Global Health medicines and vaccines in low-income countries.
  • Data analysis of internal and external insights and evidence to inform decision making to support planning, launch and continued adoption of Global Health innovations.
  • Creating proposals, presentations, and other content to enhance the engagement with and impact of GSK’s Global Health business critical outcomes.
  • Partner with a diverse range of internal and external Global Health stakeholders to support the identification, design, and execution of optimal tactics to support access to Global Health innovations.

Global Health Africa Open Lab

Overview of the Department

The GSK-Africa Open Lab works with multiple partners, including academic and research institutions globally. The aim is to share GSK’s expertise and resources to conduct research aligned to our Global Health strategy focused on infectious diseases of particular relevance to Africa. The role sits within our Global Health Impact Partnerships Team which aims to establish and manage a portfolio of partnerships to build local capacity and capabilities for maximum impact, including partnerships and initiatives to strengthen local research & development capabilities. You will primarily support the activities of the GSK-Africa Open Lab’s capability building program in Africa, focused on early career African researchers and additionally contribute to the successful delivery of other initiatives and programmes within the Impact partnerships team and the wider Global Health business unit.

Key Placement Activities

  • Content generation of materials and documents, including creating of scope documents presentations, adverts, blog posts, advocacy materials, etc. for Calls for proposals, team presentations, and meetings.
  • Sharing of information and presentations to internal and external stakeholders across geographic boundaries.
  • Conduct literature searches and desk-based research.
  • Contribute to the organisation of meetings, internships, trainings, workshops, and conferences that promote scientific engagement between researchers, academics, and GSK and supports the wider Global Health team.

Global Health Medicines Research and Development - Clinical

Overview of the Department

The Global Health Medicines R&D team focuses on the development of medicines targeting, in particular, Malaria and Tuberculosis (TB). In Malaria, the focus is on supporting the global elimination by improving treatment and prevention, and in TB to transform how TB is prevented and treated and contribute to ending the epidemic. 

The Clinical team supports the drug discovery work of the Global Health Medicines R&D unit, based in Tres Cantos, Spain, in collaboration with external non-governmental organisation (NGO) partners and academics. The team also works closely with internal groups within GSK to design and execute drug and clinical development programmes for medicines in development, and with Global Health colleagues who provide access insights and analytics to inform prioritisation, investment, partnership, and development pathways.

Key Placement Activities

  • Support the Global Health Medicines R&D Clinical Development team to deliver medicines to patients through early phase clinical studies. 
  • Working with GSK colleagues and partners, such as the Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust, WHO to deliver documents and plans that support new medicines for malaria and tuberculosis. This will include development of protocols, study reports, and publications.
  • Creating proposals and presentations to support the delivery of business-critical outcomes.
  • Undertaking literature searches and support the design and outcome of clinical studies or future proposals.
