Protect 30 million customers across the UK

We’re all about Helping Britain Prosper, and protecting our customers is a huge part of that. Across the UK, from the general public to small businesses and big corporations, we’re relied upon for ultra-secure services and support. And so, keeping the bank safe from risk is essential.

Our Risk teams play a vital role. From supporting lending applications and pricing decisions to assessing the credit quality of billions of pounds of borrowing, they enhance our decision-making across the Group.

Right now, we’re offering you the chance to learn the latest, most sophisticated ways of identifying, quantifying, modelling and reporting on risks, by joining our Risk Industrial Placement scheme.

It’s a fantastic time to join us; we’re undergoing a major transformation, investing heavily in our technology, people, and processes. This means tons of exciting opportunities for everyone in our Group, including people like you.

Is our Risk Industrial Placement for you?

Curious? Love a good problem to solve? Ready to dive in and get to grips with new technologies and new programming languages? We want to hear from you. And all the better if you can demonstrate skills in organisation, collaboration and communicating well with others.

In Risk, we use smart methods and cutting-edge tech—like data modelling and visualisation tools such as PowerBI and Tableau. Our goal is to help colleagues across the Group make the right decisions for our customers. So, we’re looking for people who can think creatively, make great use of data and be thorough and methodical when it comes to testing.

What you’ll learn

From day one you’ll be hands-on, working alongside our experienced analysts. You’ll be contributing to live tasks and projects, supporting the Group to make informed, accurate and fair choices.

You’ll be placed in one of our Risk Science Teams such as Financial Risk Oversight (includes our Market & Liquidity Risk and Climate Risk Analytics teams), Credit Risk Modelling or Model Strategy & Governance. Straight away we’ll ramp up your modelling and analytics skills while you work with a wide range of functions across the bank, including client facing business areas.

After 12 months, you’ll have experience and confidence to take your next big career step. Plus, you’ll be able to directly apply to our Risk Graduate Scheme to continue your development and build a great career.

The work you could be doing

  • Using data to forecast returns, pricing, default rates, and capital needs for billions in lending.
  • Monitoring and improving smart decision models that process millions of customers each month.
  • Modelling the funds needed to keep the Group safe in changing market conditions.
  • Simplifying processes, automating decisions, and enhancing data insights.

Requirements
