The Role
The activities were well planned, however, due to the nature of the work, sometimes it was difficult for me to assist the solicitors in the office, despite efforts to seek work. This is not a criticism of the firm, but rather it is a difficulty inherent in most legal work placements.
This is a strangely worded question, I felt that the people in the office were very welcoming in the mostpart, especially on the evening out with the trainees, this was a great event and it was easy to get along with everyone. However, in terms of valuing my work, unfortunately again it is the case on legal work placements for such a short period, that often it is more time consuming for the solicitors to explain tasks to you than for them to complete the tasks without student assistance. However, for the majority of the activities completed i felt that those who set the tasks were grateful of my assistance.
I don't feel that I needed any more support than I received. The supervisors and trainees were very helpful.
I feel I would have liked to be a little busier when working in the department.
I only really had responsibility for completing my tasks, but this is again due to the nature of the work, and it would have been inappropriate to give a greater degree of responsibility to a student on placement for only one week.
I feel that my commercial awareness improved through the placement and I have become more certain that i wish to pursue corporate law as a career.
The Company
The office was fairly busy, but quieter than usual as the department had completed a number of cases in the previous week.
The timetable of activities was well organised, however the time in the office was less well planned and was really a matter of asking for jobs to be completed during quiet times. The supervisors did however strive to keep vacation placement students occupied. I preferred this kind of work, as often overly-planned activities can feel artificial.
People at the firm definitely made the effort to enhance my legal practice education.
Company Parties/Events
The employment prospects are very appealing, however, with the legal market place being what it is it is very difficult for firms to offer a great many employment opportunities.
The Culture
very good nights out and drinks.
The North is generally cheaper than elsewhere
the placement wasn't really long enough to make comment. There was opportunity to get involved in planned social activities.
