The Role
I quite enjoyed the internship. Regarding the work: some tasks were quite boring, but ignoring those, my main project was fun. There's lots of great people willing to help and lots of interns to socialize with.
While most of my work was a side project, my team was nice an very helpful. A bit of the work was more involved in the current team work and that made me feel more involved.
My manager was very helpful, even though he didn't have much free time, he would make some to discuss questions/issues. The interns also had a graduate assigned, mine was very nice and willing to meet up and discuss, but that depends on who is assigned to you.
Not too busy, but there was generally something to do at all times. The first weeks were quite busy, but with talks and meetings. The rest was more about the actual work.
Moderate. I wasn't working on anything risky. I could make decisions on my own, although generally talking to other membrs of team was a good thing to do.
I learned quite a lot of new things: new programming languages, new tools. In other cases I had the opportunity to enhance my existing knowledge. All of this is related to computing, so it is very useful.
The Company
Quite relaxed and friendly. Most people are pretty busy, but they generally make time if you want to ask questions or shadow. The atmosphere also depends on how big your team is, if there's only 3 people vs 10 people. Can be quiet (ignoring the phone calls)- everone's working- or a bit more loud -maing jokes or lunch plans- .
Not very well: there wasn't a good plan of what the interns were supposed to do and the graduates that were assigned to the interns did not have much info (no training sessions) and were not sure what they were suppposed to do. Leaving that aside, there were events and talks, which were well organised.
Most training involved company related talks and online training about the company, but nothing about technology/computing. There was the option to do technology online training if you wanted to, as they had their own online classes you could take. The people were helpful though, if you had any issues you could contact someone who's working with that technology and ask them.
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
The internship was a good experience and future employment is something I would like. However, there are lots of teams/projects inside the company and is difficult to get to know what areas you could work in. This is important, as things are quite different in each of these.
The Culture
There were a few events organised where the interns could socialize. The good part about such a large company is that there are lots of interns coming in every year, so there are plenty of people in a similar situation.
Cost of living is fine, much better compared to London of course. Socialising costs were moderate.
Can't comment too much on that, but there are lots of bars/pubs as it is the city centre and a few nightclubs.
There were some events organised, such as volunteering, coding challenges or talks.
