The Role
A lot of restructuring and little to no communication to the interns. Made the environment very stressful and unstable to work in.
Colleagues were very helpful and always approachable.
Support was there, but high expectations to be able to guide yourself (finding the right people to speak to on your own rather than asking for specific contacts).
Beginning of the internship was very busy, then less so towards the end. It depended on how much work you wanted to put in, no one expected you to stay longer than 7/8pm however I did have nights until 10pm approximately.
I was given one important project on which I got to take the lead and speak to a high number of very senior people, which I have enjoyed.
Not many skills that can help for degree studies, mainly soft skills (ie management and communication).
The Company
My department was rather slow, and hence there was not the sense of urgency that you would expect in an investment bank like J.P. Morgan. A lot of people were always eager to be able to go home around 5pm.
Very bad communication.
We did have good training in the first week of the internship, other trainings/teach ins were rather based on what the firm does which most of us already knew and hence did not contribute to teaching us any hard skills.
Subsidised Canteen
Even though I got an offer, the firm is not as flexible as it likes to say that it is. It is very stringent and does not put extra effort into finding you a role that fits for you and for the firm.
The Culture
Interns were all very nice, and we got along. Though some levels of competition, it was easy to go out for a drink every now and then.
Very expensive, due to being in the middle of the finance district in London.
Mainly bars, overcrowded and expensive.
Some clubs that we were able to join.
