The Role
Very enjoyable, everyone was very friendly and more than happy to help and chat about their work, or any problems I was having with my own. Given the time of year work was at a lull in the beginning but soon had projects to work on, including a very interesting site visit
Very much so! Everyone would take the time to speak to me and would get back to me with any questions raised as soon as possible.
The nature of the consultancy is individual work with fall back support on your line and senior managers. That being said whenever issues were raised they were all more than happy to help.
The summer has been rather slow for packages of work, coupled with a large intake of graduates, meant that work at times was difficult to come by. That being said I did have projects to complete, two of which I got to handover to new starters on my leaving
As a summer intern you are never going to be running the show, but you were expected to listen to the brief and be responsible for delivering your work effectively and efficiently.
The independent learning, researching, report writing and personal skills will help me immensely in my course. It has given me a commercial understanding of the industry I will be going on into to study.
The Company
It's a business office, people constantly taking calls, or having small informal meetings. That being said it was very relaxed and people are more than willing to have a laugh. Hot desking meant you constantly moved around and met new people.
The work set was largely driven by what projects the business unit had secured prior to arrival and any work your line manager had for you. I was lucky in the sense that I had a project to get on with that saw me through other lulls in the work.
I felt like they invested greatly, even though I was a summer placement student, they got me on training courses and site visits to power plants that will prove invaluable during my studies.

Very appealing I have already accepted sponsorship for my degree and will be joining the firm as a grad in Sept 2016.
The Culture
Atkins has a fantastic grad and summer internship social committee, organising trips away, as well as numerous parties and social events in Bristol.
Operate a cashless system where you load money onto your ID card. Food was good value for money and only had to pay a £10 joining fee to get discounts on all social events.
Bristol has a booming nightlife, loads of club and pubs to enjoy, as well as many restaurants to enjoy.
Lots of opportunity to get involved in outside work activities, particularly through the companies social committee.
