About You
It was a really enjoyable experience. Everyone was really friendly including the staff and made me feel really welcome. Lunch was provided which was lovely although a bit brief. The team building exercise provided a way to get to know some of the interns better and helped us bond with our peers as a group.
All throughout our time there we were made to feel very welcome. They did place quite a lot of emphasis on how they were looking for future bright employees like us and to that extent I supposed they made us feel like we could be valued individuals when applying to the company.
There was lots of time to ask questions about how to apply and what experience we needed. The CV and cover letter workshop was really supportive with lots of extra hints and tips. As well as this there was lots of time to ask questions during the seminar which provided support.
The CV and cover letter workshop was really valuable to me. I will definitely use the skills I learnt there when applying to internships and years in industry. I feel that I really gained an idea of what companies are looking for in employees and this is extremely useful information for my career.
The Company
There were lots of different seminars and talks. A lot of thought and preparation had been put into the day and there were regular refreshment breaks. However I thought that overall the day didn’t need to be so long and could be more succinct. However overall it was very good.
The atmosphere was good. Everyone was very friendly and although days like this can often be a bit stressed and tense as everyone worries about getting a job, on the whole the atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful. The Centrica HQ is still a professional work place though so the atmosphere was professional and people were in suits.
We had a team building exercise during one of the talks where we learnt what skills the company looks for amongst team players. In this aspect I felt like we were being taught as well as trained. It was a good way to evaluate how you work within a team and taught me a few new ideas such as not to treat everything like a competition.
It was very helpful in this aspect. Lots of staff spoke to us about their role in the company and I now feel like I have a good idea about all the different roles within Centrica as a company. There was also time to ask questions about these different roles.
Because the day put a lot of emphasis on what skills the company looks for, it was very plain to see what values they had and what sort of motivated individual they were looking for. Centrica seems to look for Enthusiastic bright and motivated individuals and the whole staff team are very outgoing and friendly so I suppose that’s a bit of the company’s ‘Culture’.
The content was fairly valuable. It has certainly given me ideas and made me excited about applying to companies like Centrica. Graduation is still a long way off but I definitely think I will apply after my degree or go through the grad scheme or do one of the internships that they offer.
Everything Else
Centrica offers a chance to claim expenses of up to £50 for travel to and from the open day. However I think it takes 6 weeks to process and I still haven’t got mine yet, However I think it is a great idea to pay travel costs because it means the insight day is more accessible for everyone.
There were so many networking opportunities. Often in the breaks there would be staff members around specifically to chat to you. There was also a great chance to network with the intern’s and also the other students attending the insight day. They actively encourage you to tweet and to find them on facebook and linkedin.

Yes. During the tour of the building we saw the company gym and a lovely meadow they had outside. There was also a lot of talk about training days and all the other stuff offered to you when working with Centrica. If you want to gain skills you can always go on some life changing courses!
Yes I would. It was a very insightful day and it made me think a lot about all the different roles I could apply for within a large firm. It made Centrica feel like a fantastic place to work and has really broadened my horizons and ideas about the future.
