The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Atkins, I was made to feel like part of the company and at home straight away.
I was given work on proper projects from day 1 from my colleagues and it was emphasised that I was part of the team.
If I ever had questions, no matter how trivial, I felt that I could ask anyone I worked with and their response was always helpful and informative.
I always had some work to do, as I generally had a piece of work running incase I finished other work early.
I was given a good amount of responsibility and I felt that the work I was doing was going to good use. I was also given work that I hadn't done before which increased my sense of responsibility greatly to do a good job.
I feel that the skills i learnt in the application of geology to engineering practice is going to be extremely useful for my Masters in Engineering Geology starting now. I also have an understanding of how an engineering consultancy works and what Engineering Geologists do in that environment.
The Company
The atmosphere was extremely friendly and there were events e.g. rounders match throughout the summer period.
It was well organised and everything was set up and planned before I arrived, e.g. an email address etc. I also had a booklet to refer to if I had an troubles later on in the placement.
I attended a few lunchtime lectures which are a regular occurrence at Atkins.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
I am very interested in the Atkins Graduate Development Programme for Ground Engineering
The Culture
The cost of living and socialising was relatively expensive in Epsom.
There are a few pubs in Epsom.
I believe that there are sports teams that employees can get involved in.
