The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at SAP. I worked on a diverse range of projects and developed a lot of professional and personal skills which will help me in any future employment post university. The most valuable aspect of my placement was meeting and networking with professionals from all over the technology industry. I am confident that these connections will put me in good stead to secure future employment.
SAP considers its interns to be an integral part of the business. I always felt that my work and project contributions were significant and value-adding.
My managers and supervisor were always there if I needed them, however they gave me the space to take control of my own placement year and explore avenues i was passionate about.
I was extremely busy in my role, working on multiple projects at any given time.
I was expected to take full responsibility and accountability for the work I committed to on projects. The responsibility increased as my placement progressed, so it did not feel intimidating or overwhelming.
The experience I gained on placement will be invaluable to me when I go back to university to complete my studies. I feel I have a better understanding of how business theories are implemented practically in the workplace, and I feel confident that the professional and personal skills i developed will help me to secure post-graduate employment.
The Company
At times, the office was understandably busy and stressful. However as a whole I enjoyed the open and friendly atmosphere in the office.
SAP offered a lot of opportunities for professional development, however it was up to me to invest as much or as little as i wanted into my own professional development plan.

SAP currently has a graduate programme in Sales, and they often hire graduates elsewhere around the business.
The Culture
There were around 30 interns on my placement year, and the scheme is still growing, so the social scene amongst interns was an unexpected bonus! However the focus of the year was still very much on working hard!
The cost of living in London is high. However my income for the year did reflect this somewhat.
The SAP offices are based in Feltham which is not that central to London. However there were some nice surrounding areas to socialise after work, and central London was easily accessible on weekends.
