The Role
Make no mistake, a Southwestern summer is tough tough work. It requires discipline and commitment. Some days were great, meeting lovely families, selling lots of books, others were mentally tough to the point where you will want to cry and quit.
The people are one of the main reasons I enjoyed my time with Southwestern. I've made some amazing friends who I still see regularly. The people on your team become your family.
The training and support I received throughout my three summers were second to none.
Once again, this is a tough job that requires blood, sweat and tears. If you do it you'll be glad you did, but you will need to commit to giving your absolute all, nothing less.
I was in charge of my own business. It was up to me whether I succeeded or failed.
The Company
Most people do a few summers with SW and then leave to go into the 'real world'. A small percentage stay on to work with SW full time. These people go on to run big sales teams.
The Culture
Absolutely! There are meetings with lots of other SWers throughout the year as well as opportunities to win holidays - I went on holidays to the Gambia and Gran Canaria with SW. Even now the alums meet up once a month in London and do various other events together throughout the year.
We lived with families to keep costs low. I spent between $50-$100 a week in rent. During the 12 summer period its all work from 8am to 9:30pm - Mon to Sat, so no socialising then.
As above, this is a very intensive job, so no nightlife during the 12 weeks.
