The Role
I really enjoyed the internship as it showed me what working for Deloitte is. I was given important tasks to complete which contributed towards the work of the department I was in and I was given the chance to meet a lot of people from different departments and ask as many questions as I wanted.
All the colleagues were very friendly and welcoming. They expressed real interest in me and wanted to know more about me, my past experience and my interests. A lot of them offered to spend some time with me and walk me through what they do so that I get a better idea of what employees at different levels and departments do.
I had a buddy who was always willing to help me if I had any questions or difficulties. Ha was responsible for organising my internship and giving me instructions in the beginning. Every employee, I worked with offered help and guidance even outside working hours. They were all very approachable.
I was very busy and got the chance to work on 4 different clients. I had to travel to their offices which were all in different places most of the time outside the city where my internship was. So, often I had to take a train/bus/taxi to get to the client.
I was given real tasks that are normally completed by the employees e.g. testing, data analysis etc. I attended meetings and conference calls and had the chance to communicate with clients. I learned a lot and gained many skills because of that.
The skills and experience that this internship gave me are invaluable. I got a real feel of what working in this industry is and what it requires. In the end I had a partner interview and a presentation which is very important for reflecting on the whole experience. I was provided with feedback from all the employees I worked with and was offered a graduate position.
The Company
Very welcoming and positive.
Very well organised - in the beggining I was sent a schedule of clients I am going to work on during the whole internship and also at the end of each week I received instructions from my buddy on where I need to be next week and who I am working with.
I learned a lot of Excel skills as well as worked with various types of software for data analysis, storage and processing.
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
At the end there is a partner interview and a presentation. If you are successful you can be offered a position on the graduate scheme for the following year which includes the Chartered accountant qualification.
The Culture
Yes, there were a couple chances to socialise with the other interns and employees including a welcome lunch, an annual dinner for the department and a farewell lunch.
You have to take into account the fact that you need to travel to the clients you are working on and initially you need to be able to afford the travel costs. Of course you can claim them back later.
I haven't explored the nightlife.
I haven't attended any during my internship.
