The Role
The two week placement gave an excellent insight into what it is like to work for a big city law firm. It was very intense but enjoyable.
Generally speaking everybody made me feel very welcome.
Although I had a number of different supervisors over the two week period the general level of supervision was about right.
I was always given plenty of work to do and was able to take on extra tasks when capable of doing so.
I was given meaningful tasks to do, although any documents were necessarily checked by partners before sending out to clients.
The vacation scheme was a very important way of obtaining the necessary experience and exposure in order to secure a training contract
The Company
The overall atmosphere was good with most people good humoured and sociable.
The organisers did an excellent job making sure that the placement contained the right balance of individual work experience, group activities and social events.
The vacation placement was an integral part of an assessment process which culminated in the offer of a training contract
Subsidised Canteen
The placement formed part of an assessment process which culminated in an offer of employment.
The Culture
The group doing the placement got on very well together. There were numerous social events and other evening drinks organised.
As we were in Central London in the City, the area is quite expensive. However, little money was spent since many events were organised that did not involve personal expenditure.
I did not experience any nightlife during the placement.
Some evening social events were organised but two weeks was not really long enough for this to be relevant.
