The Role
GE always gave me exciting and challenging projects, which made for a thoroughly enjoyable year.
I definitely felt valued. I was quite worried about how much importance an intern would have to any company before I started, but I quickly realised GE values its interns very highly. I was never labeled as an intern, and never felt like one. I felt like a member of the team straight away.
I had weekly one-to-ones with my manager which helped me keep in touch. I was fortunate enough to have my manager based at the same site as me, which is usually the case. Sometimes your manager could be in a different office to you though.
Most of the time I was very busy, as I chose to take on additional projects outside of my team. Often I would work longer hours to ensure I was achieving as much as I could, but this is never forced upon you. However, at times there were quieter periods which were sometimes frustrating!
I was given a lot of responsibility. I led international projects, and worked on huge cost saving initiatives.
I learnt more during my internship with GE than I did through the prior 2 years of university combined. I'll soon see exactly how much it will help when I start my third year.
The Company
I was surrounded by interesting, fun and intelligent people. It was amazing.
GE has a clear path for the internship programme, and a network is there for you to communicate with other interns. Due to the nature of business, the work will never be completely organised. As I worked in projects, and not day-to-day work, it was hard to say what would be around the corner!
Much more than I expected. I obtained globally recognised qualifications and all of the interns were seen as the potential future of IT in GE.

Very, the graduate programme with GE is one of, if not the best in the UK.
The Culture
Definitely, there is around 50 IT interns worked at GE each year.
Reasonable, although it was difficult to find a house! Unfortunately we were quite far out of the city.
About 30 minutes taxi into the city centre, where the nightlife was awesome.
Lots of volunteering and activities outside of work.
