The Role
I really enjoyed my 12 months internship with GE. I was presented with many opportunities to challenge myself and showcase my innovative skills through IT. I even had the opportunity to work in Denmark for 3 months. As a whole, I'd say my experience has been very beneficial and has endorsed my career greatly.
Throughout my internship, my manager and I had regular meetings on a weekly basis. My manager invested a lot of time in developing me as an individual and made sure I had no problems with my work. He provided constructive feedback throughout my internship and this helped me realise my strengths and weaknesses.
I was given a lot of responsibilities as I progressed on with my internship. I was given a lot of projects, were I had to take the lead. While working in Denmark I had the opportunity to manage several assignments (for example; user acceptance testing, data conversion, user training, go-live, post go-live support). I was taken back with the level of work that I was carrying out as it was of professional standards.
The placement experience opened many new opportunities for personal development on skills and expertise, which not only helped me with the job that I was doing but will also enhance my CV with industry specific training and certifications, making my application to future employers desirable.
