The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the placement, social and work aspects were well balanced.
Luckily I was placed within a relatively young team, I was therefore able to integrate myself quickly and form great working relationships.
From the outset I was constantly supervised and guided, although I was expected to work independently after my initial induction. However when I requested any further help or guidance my team members were usually keen to drop what they were doing and provide assistance.
Generally I always had enough work to see me through the week. Although there was sometimes when things were quiet, but this is to be expected with any company as there are always quiet periods
I felt I was given a lot of responsibility. I was allowed to work independently, however all work was supervised when required and was then subject to two checks, as is standard procedure.
I gained an in depth knowledge in to the role of a Geotechnical team and was able to build on my skills I learned from my under grad degree by seeing how they can be applied to real life situations. I also learned many new skills including the use of geotechnical software
The Company
Always positive, happy, and constructive
I felt Atkins had a proper structure for me to follow. Right from the outset I set goals and then worked towards achieving them, atkins encouraged this to ensure I got the most from the placement.
The company constantly had social events and even gave me the opportunity to attend a few site visits
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Because of my placement with Atkins they have offered me an interview to return as a graduate.
The Culture
No other students on my office but met a few from other offices.
Very expensive given it was London. Some help finding accommodation would have been of great benefit
Central London was only a 10 mom train away
Atkins has many sports events organised by both the company and staff
