The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I strongly improved my Java skills as well as building a better understanding of Electronic Trading.
My tasks contributed to the project my team was working on rather than an individual side project - immediately adding value to my work. I was given a good balance of independent work and working under the guidance of members of my team.
I had the constant support of my manager/mentor - the ability to ask questions when needed as well as having guidance for my tasks. Members of the team also took time out to answer my questions and teach me which I greatly appreciated.
I always had an ongoing task to complete.
I was given complete responsibility of my tasks.
I have improved my Java skills which will assist me in my degree. Gaining a better understanding of Electronic Trading and Algo Trading as well the difference between the front end technology role and the developer role has also been an insightful experience.
The Company
It was a friendly but focused atmosphere.
The mix of talks, social activities and tasks were well planned and balanced. I enjoyed building friendships with the other interns and felt that the set up of the internship strongly supported this.
I received a lot of feedback from individuals advising me how best to improve skills and helping me decide the best role for me.
Company Parties/Events
I would love to come back to this company to work full time as I enjoyed the work over the internship. But more importantly I felt comfortable for the whole time and loved the BAML culture. I have made life long friends in both other interns and employees which is invaluable to me.
The Culture
There was a social event occurring most weeks and many intern became good friends so socialised regularly. Also, there was a strong social presence with the touch rugby team which was a pleasure to join.
I was fortunate enough to live at home, but like most of London it was quite expensive to go out.
