The Role
I very much enjoyed my placement, and it was a great experience.
I felt I was a valued member of the team, and was treated as if I was a permanent employee.
My manager, supervisor were very supportive, and would happily help whenever necessary.
Overall, time was well balanced, although there were a few occasions where there was too much or too little to do in a particular time span.
Soon into my placement, I was given various responsibilities, and often given the opportunity to make decisions and develop solutions to problems myself.
In terms of personal skills, I have learnt and developed a great deal. Although not directly related to my degree, some technical skills do apply.
The Company
The office atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. You were welcome to approach other engineers to ask questions or confirm issues with the product.
Throughout the placement, from my first day to my departure, I felt it was well organised, both through HR and my manager.
I attended some training courses, although there were others which my manager and I thought would be beneficial, but were not available. I was encouraged to do some self study each week to broaden my technical knowledge.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Job prospects are very promising.
The Culture
Social events were organised by the company several times through the year, as well as placement student specific events.
Cambridge is quite an expensive place to live.
There is very little nightlife in Cambridge.
There are some sports and social clubs which can be joined.
