The Role
Absolutely loved it. I was in the global markets division where I was able to experience 2 very different teams, with different functions and products. This really gave me a holistic view about about banking, the different cultures within it, and the opportunities. I had a really good time - the teams I was placed in were at times very demanding but also extremely supportive - which made sure my learning curve was very steep. Everybody is very friendly and there is very much the spirit that the interns could be the future leaders of this firm.
Since its only an internship its very hard to add value to the desk. However, there are tasked that are pretty important and that have to be done well. Doing these tasked correctly and in a timely manner will ensure that your colleagues and supervisors will make you feel valued. I for my part felt extremely valued.
My supervisors always gave me guidance for the internship and career/life in general. However, once I really got to know everybody, I got guidance from nearly all team members.
It depends on the desk, but usually they are not really demanding in terms of how much work you do. It's more about creating opportunities for yourself in order to do interesting work. So basically you can be as busy as you want to be. For my part, I was busy all the time as I was given interesting assignments and took the opportunity to shadow many people and learn from them on a daily basis. However, every summer analyst was also given projects that were not really related by the desk, but were given from HR. These included writings articles and newsletters, playing the trading game, and presentations - however these didn't take up too much time.
Just like I said earlier, usually you will be given as much responsibility as you ask for and they think is fit. I was given important projects and had relatively important daily responsibilities.
I can definitely put now more into context the things I learnt in finance at university. It definitely made me more detail oriented and my eagerness to succeed definitely went up. It was extremely intellectually stimulating to work alongside really smart people and definitely gave me a better perspective about many things: success, career, money, global economy, teamwork, human interactions among many other things. Overall this was an extremely enriching experience and I can only recommend it to everybody who is thinking about a career in finance.
The Company
Great atmosphere! very dynamic, hard working and professional, but also very fun.
Top notch! Couldn't have been better
I would say the time your team and supervisors spend with you is probably the greatest thing for your learning and development - and that is definitely the case at RBC! Half of the time I was shadowing people from different desk and that contributed I think most to my development throughout the program.

I think there a lots of opportunities at RBC Capital Markets to have a great career!
The Culture
We went together for drinks, dinners and also went out partying sometimes.
