Summer Analyst Review

Everyone was very helpful, from the other interns to senior bankers. I was made to feel welcome and valued. This was exemplified for example by the fact that I was invited along to many meetings with senior bankers, as well as the fact that I was given more responsibilities to as my team learned to trust me.

I was given a great amount of support and my supervisors and superiors were very happy to answer any questions I had. One challenge is trying to find the right time to ask questions when people are incredibly busy, but this would obviously be the case in any investment bank.

I was busy, but to the extent that it was still manageable. I was also checked on by my superiors, as they wanted to make sure I was not working too much and was getting a good work-life balance. As an intern I was also not expected to stay behind after others had left so how busy I was depended greatly on how busy the team was.

I would say I was given a very good amount of responsibility. At the start, everything I did was checked several times from the most simple tasks, but as my team learned to trust me, I got more responsibility to check my work myself. As an intern I would not want too much responsibility anyways, given that we are still so inexperienced in the industry.

The skills and knowledge I received do not necessarily assist me that much in my degree studies, but the skills in Microsoft Office software and knowledge in accounting and markets are something that could greatly benefit me in applying for other jobs in finance. So the training and skills learned at the job are both very valuable going forward.

The atmosphere was very welcoming, especially once you get to know the people on your floor. One thing I particularly liked was that even very senior people greeted us interns. It was great to have different teams on the same floor with no clear division, this made the atmosphere more lively and made it feel open.

The internship was very well organised. From the first days of introduction to the training and our introductions to the team, the first week was a nice easy start to the intense internship. After that, we had a good number of additional presentations, feedback sessions and socials, where we got to meet up with the interns from other teams.

The company invested in great deal in us. We had general training in the first week, and after that we had some more specific additional sessions. We were also able to organise additional training for a specific group of interns, and this was done completely from our own initiative and gave us a feeling the company was really prepared to invest in us.

Rothschild has a great environment and culture to work in, and the values of family roots and team work were clearly present in the day-to-day workings of the company. It seemed to me they treat junior analysts well and fairly and provide great opportunities for achieving career goals and self-development.

We had some very fun socials with interns, and as we had very flexible lunch hours, we had lots of chances to meet up with the interns for lunch or coffee throughout the internship. We also had some drinks/food and social events with our teams, this was also a great way to get to know people.

Central London is obviously not a cheap place to be, eat or live, but the company's cafe provided subsidised lunch and snacks which was helpful in keeping costs down. The location of the office is so central that living costs could be reduced in return for a bit of a longer commute. The compensation is also sufficient to afford comfortably living in London.

It's London - nightlife is amazing!

We had a fundraising challenge among the interns which encouraged us to do things outside of work. We also had invitations to presentations and events organised by the sports and social club. We could also use the gym during work days.
