About You
I really enjoyed it as it gave me real insight into the work and tasks I would be undertaken if I were to apply as a graduate. Furthermore, my work was taken seriously and I could actually see it assisting others and thus forming a part of the bigger picture!
My time was very valued as I was given real tasks which needed to done, majority of which were in fact the same or similar tasks to those that were being undertaken by graduates.
I was not left to my own devices, everyone was very friendly and more than approachable if I had any question nor query. No one made it seem like any question or query was silly. I definitely felt I could approach any colleague, as there was no sense of hierarchy in any shape or form.
I definitely improved my presentation skills, both through out my time at Deloitte but also in preparation for my interview. The knowledge I developed and acquired throughout my time at Deloitte gave me a real and very accurate demonstration of the different angles from which a single argument can be viewed from. This I feel has definitely assisting in developing my critical skills and commercial awareness. Furthermore, due to the nature of the role I also feel it has enhanced and made me far more confident in my research abilities.
The Company
My time there was very structured, which worked very well as it meant I got an accurate and full insight into all aspects of the company. Nonetheless, I was still able to tailor my tasks more to my interests, for example I had a particular interest in Intellectual Property, thus I was able to do more work for that team, allowing me to explore my interests in a formal setting.
The atmosphere was great, every colleague was very helpful and friendly. The open-office definitely assisting in this, as the partners sat opposite or next to you, thus there was no impression or feeling of hierarchy.
We had training in Birmingham, where we were able to meet fellow interns across the UK, which was ideal as it allowed everyone to meet each other but also realise the company's willingness to invest in each and every intern. The two day training allowed us to meet various colleagues at various stages in the careers, which allowed us to pick up hints and tips on how to succeed, demonstrating Deloitte's aim of helping us succeed and find the right field for us.
Due to our work being very similar, in fact exactly the same, as that of graduates the insight was very accurate. This allowed us to definitely establish if Deloitte was for us and if we were for Deloitte. We were given real tasks some of which we were able to see through to the end.
The insight was a very accurate depiction of the company culture as it really demonstrated that Deloitte employees are very approachable and more than willing to help, regardless of the issue or question.
Due to the accuracy and similarity to a graduate role, it allowed me to confirm it is in fact a career I would love to pursue. Furthermore, I throughly enjoyed all the tasks I was given and completed which again confirmed that I could definitely see myself working at Deloitte as a graduate and enjoying my time there!
Everything Else
Payment was very prompt
We had a few socials and dinners with various colleagues, who were at various stages of there career. Due to this, we had multiple opportunities to network with various employees in an informal setting.
Events were planned around our timetables allowing us to meet various employees and understand more about the culture of the firm.
We were given a talk at the very start and end of our placement encouraging us to get involved in various events and were in fact sent emails throughout our time at the firm of various events that were taking place.
I definitely would recommend this opportunity to everyone and anyone, even if you feel accounting or consulting or even Deloitte may not be for you, you would be very surprised and I definitely think would enjoy your time at the firm!
