The Role
It was extremely enjoyable, a combination of a good work setting and culture and plenty of socialising outside of company hours made the entire placement an absolute joy. I came away from the year heartbroken to be leaving SLB, I made many friends
Very valued. I was responsible for my own projects and was told by managers and supervisors that the work I was doing was valid and valuable for the team. Seeing the projects I was working on actually make it to the field was very rewarding.
There was always help when needed, occasionally I needed to be reminded that it is ok to ask when you're struggling or simply don't get it. Both my manager and my supervisor were fantastic help during the year, and whenever I felt out of my depth I was ensured that I was doing well and was given a nudge in the right direction
There was always something to be doing, very rarely felt bored. During very busy times like end of quarters it felt like there was a lot of work to be doing for not enough hours in the day but generally there was a very good balance of work. You were never expected to work outside your company hours unless a deadline was approaching
A great deal; I was responsible for my own projects and was given projects based on large team projects. Monetary value was placed on projects and it was fantastic to see that I had saved the company a great deal of money, or that the CFD I had done had help release a part into the field etc.
The skills I accumulated were beyond what I felt like I could have learnt at UNiversity. I became familiar with several new programmes and was given the opportunity to become very specialised in an area I found very interesting. Going back to University I feel like I'm several steps ahead of my colleagues because I actually used University skills while on placement, and more.
The Company
The office was very pleasant with it not being too noisy or too quiet at any stage. There were plenty of social activities to get involved in and there was a good policy of never being afraid to ask questions to anyone in the office. I really enjoyed working with the people I did
There were plenty of intern specific activities such as day trips to London and get to know each other days with the other interns across the country. They were always well organised and it occurs every year very successfully. While interning there was always support from the recruiters.
As an intern you were expected to do all the training a new company member would also do, which makes you feel part of the team immediately. There was always opportunities to learn more about other areas of the company, and when I asked to develop my skills in a certain piece of software time and resources were given to me to develop

Hugely appealing, I like the idea of a job tailored to what I want to do which would involve being very international. I think it would be silly to turn down a future job with them because they are so supportive of their employees.
The Culture
Definitely a good social scene in the company. Since everyone lives in different places it is always fun to join up with people who live around you on Friday nights. There is not a lot of organisation for team building outings. As students colleagues and graduates we planned many day trips and even holidays together.
I decided to live away from the centre I was working at which was slightly more expensive and a bit more of a commute but the city had a lot more going on than the town where the placement was held. A lot of the other employees do the same so it was very easy to organise liftshares.
In the area I worked there was NO nightlife, but in the area I lived there was plenty of nightlife and always many opportunities for nights out and casual drinks after work. I would not recommend living in Stonehouse because there is simply not enough going on
PLenty of opportunities, as you can tailor your work hours to suit you I enjoyed coming home early and getting involved in lots of sports after work. Again, there were people who I also organised day trips and weekend outings with, everyone at work is very friendly!
