The Role
I really enjoyed the responsibility given to you from day one. I liked how it was up to me to make decisions when moving forward with my project and justify them to my line manager. I find responsibility is a big factor for internships as it allows you to gain confidence, experience and decision making skills which is something you don't learn at university. My only dislike was that I don't see myself working in a lab at the moment but I find working in the lab will be very good for my overall career.
There were times when I volunteered to do extra work but my colleagues shrugged me off. There were times where they gave me more work. It would have been nice if they explained why I couldn't do the extra job instead of telling me no.
My boss gave me helped when required and he listened to my ideas. My supervisors were always on help to discuss any problems and ideas I also had.
Lab work varies. I could have a long test on and have nothing to do - which is why I asked for more work. Or I could have lots of short tests and have lots to do.
A lot as this was my own project that depended on myself to push the project forward.
They have taught me patience and analysing data
The Company
Everyone was really nice and friendly.
Got my computer straight away etc. Presentations were set up in time with good turn out. Had a nice meal with other interns. More feedback would have been nice or areas of improvements provided.
We had excellent safety training, NeXt training was very nice. More lab training would have been good.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Excellent the best I can find. No one offers better training, range of projects, opportunities to travel ... the list goes on...
The Culture
Yeah, only downside was people was spread out over the city. Some companies put all students into university halls over the summer... cheaper for the company (I guess) and more sociable for the students. Granted SLB offices are spread out over the city, maybe give the student a choice.
Aberdeen is Aberdeen its expensive
its okay
Em some yeah, I went to the gym with some guys from work. I think if the sports and Social club advertised a bit more it would have been better.
