The Role
It was really amazing experience. During the weekends I was feeling kinda bored I was not at work. The vibe on the trading floor especially when big things are happening as with this summer is a must-see!
I had two rotations. In my first one I was responsible for an individual project which could be used to advise clients on Index rebalancing events. While the index I was focused on was not the most popular or heavily tracked, still this directly added value to Citi's business in the area. During my second rotation on a HY/Distressed Credit Trading desk, I had to be more proactive to arrange myself work and be helpful to the desk as they did not really seem to need anything urgently.
Not too much support I would say, but I guess that normal for everyone, everywhere. You are expected to be able to figure stuff out by yourself and only ask questions when there's no other way. I'd have to admit that this decreases your efficiency a bit, considering that you spend more time looking for answer that you can get straight away if you go and bother the trader next to you, but it is an valuable experience to become independent as possible.
Days were flying by really quickly even though they were about 12-13 hours long. I was mostly responsible for my own workload as I was not on a desk that forced me to do ad-hoc things constantly for them apart from the occasional spreadsheets/research. Ultimately, I had times during the day when I was very productive and busy to do as much as possible as quickly as possible to impress them and other times when I was just reading articles and research to pick up on stuff.
Apart from the big project on my first desk I wouldn't say I was given too much responsibility but I guess that's normal considering people there do not expect you to contribute and add value, but rather to show that you are capable to learn and do stuff even if they are not very important/urgent or both.
I had already graduated when I did the summer internship, but considering my area of studies was completely different than finance I wouldn't say it would have helped me a lot.
The Company
A lot of fun!!! People around were singing and joking with each other. It was very lively and you feel excited to be there.
HR did great job! Everything went very smoothly. There were several events throughout the internship as well.
We had a training week at the beginning and then it was up to us to learn stuff but you can always ask questions as long as they are smart ones and the answer is not the first thing that comes out when you google it. We had Bloomberg terminals for every intern which was quite impressive as I've heard most banks don't do it to save money. (BLOOMBERG IS AWESOME)

Very! Citi is top 3 IB in FICC for almost every desk and is looking to expand in equities too! Overall, very promising company to work for!
The Culture
Yeap! Other interns were fun, grads too!

If you wake up at 5.30am every morning you are not having that much night life tbh. Canary is also not the best place to go out anyway.
We had a charity day for all of us which was quite fun!
