The Role
I enjoyed it very much. The work was interesting and challenging but not overwhelming and everybody was very welcoming. There were also several networking events laid on which provided a platform for a social life outside of the office.
Extremely valued. Everybody on the team I was working with made a real effort to include me in their existing routine. There was also regular contact from the internship organisers to ensure that I was settling in well.
The manager of the internship was always available by email for any queries or support that was needed. My desk manager came and reviewed my work every few days and pointed out areas where I could improve. I found this process very helpful and learned a lot.
I had enough work to fill each working day but not so much that it felt overwhelming.
Not as much as a full employee as that would have required more extensive training which there wasn't time for over the 8 week period. However the work I was given did feel worthwhile because it aided the other people on the team with their jobs.
The skills I learned from my desk will definitely be carried through to my work at university. In my experience not a lot of time is put in to the teaching of programming practices at university so to have been taught some industry standards has improved the quality of my work. The social skills acquired through dealing with people in the workplace have also helped me in my everyday life.
The Company
At the workstations it was quiet with people taking their jobs seriously. However there were several break rooms on each floor where employees could go to have a break and relax.
Very well organised. Leading up to the start date everything was very straightforward and there wasn't any confusion as to what I needed to do. Upon arriving we were provided with and information pack which explained everything we needed to know for the 8 week period.
Over the 8 week period there was only time for 2 designated training days. However the time spent by my colleagues reviewing my work was very valuable.

The Culture
Yes there was. A whatsapp group was set up which allowed us all to keep up with each other and arrange meetings.
Central London is extremely expensive.
Plenty of pubs. You would have to travel slightly further afield for bars and nightclubs.
