The Role
The internship was a great experience as I was fully supported by great team members. The internship was well structured with very ralex informal talks with senior representatives within the private bank. Other interns were really friendly and I made a great bunch of friends- who I will genuinely keep in touch with.
The people on my team were fantastic. Not only were they accomodating and welcoming but their knowledge and professionalism was very impressive. My colleagues made me feel at ease immediately as I arrived on my desk and were always more than willing to help me with whatever problem I had. I genuinely felt that I could work with these people for the rest of my life.
My supervisors gave me so much support that I never felt lost or afraid to ask when I have a minor problem. They also expressed an interest in helping my development during the internship. Equally, there was a perfect balance between the levels of autonomy that I received to perform my tasks and the parental and supportive nature of my managers.
Perfect balance between work and time for lunch and networking outside job hours. Occasionally, you may have to stay a bit longer to get things done, but this rarely happens. I rarely felt bored because I was given long term projects that required a lot of time and effort which occupied my time effectively.
I was given enough responsibility in the team to feel that I contributed and added value to the team. Although I did not meet clients directly, I felt that the work I did would definitely be appreciated by all parts of the private bank. Moreover, I was given the appropriate level of responsibility as well as independence- which I think is vital for my learning development.
I feel that the skills I have developed will be extremely important for my potential career in finance. Apart from finance I feel that my proficiency in certain work systems have increased dramatically which would equip me well for any profession.
The Company
Very relaxed but professional. Everyone seemed really ambitious and people generally seemed very enthusiastic at work.
The programme was very well structured as there was a good balance between social events, work and other extra activities which Citi organised. However, I feel that a weeks worth of financial training would have been particularly beneficial.
Citi did not directly give interns training which is a bit disappointing. But, I felt that my personal development has increased dramatically as a result of the people I was working with.
Company Parties/Events
The working environment is tremendous and amazingly professional and relaxed at the same time. The internship has given me a great exposure to all the different possible routes inside the organisation and some particularly roles are very appealing.
The Culture
The interns were usually very tired after a hard day of work. We did have a few drinks after work occasionally but the social side of work could definitely have been better.
Generally, food and socialising in London and Canary Wharf is not very cheap. However, I was relatively used to the prices because I studied nearby in london anyways.
The nightlife was good but only until a certain time. There weren't any clubs as far as I was aware which meant that Canary Wharf would be relatively quiet after 11pm.
There were a few activites people could get involved after work. They were mainly sport activities so there was a lack of variety unfortunately.
