    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I attended a 2 hour EY event on campus regarding information about the service lines. I have attended lots of EY events before and therefore knew a lot of the information they using, however I can imagine it was useful to other students there who have not had previous exposure to EY. I still enjoyed it though as some aspects were new to me, and the opportunity to network was very useful. I was able to have questions answered and gained a couple contacts.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • At every event I've attended with EY I have always felt values. EY employees are always patient to answer questions, and even if they may not know the answer they will attempt to answer and ensure you are put in contact with someone who has more knowledge (eg There was not a employee from the Tax division at the event but we were offered the opportunity to be put in touch with someone)

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • It was more of a presentation than an interactive session so difficult to value "guidance/support". However, in terms of answering any questions I had they were very helpful. I also talked to a HR person who offered her details to support my next application, so I guess a very supportive culture overall!

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was interested in hearing about the service lines EY offers, so it was useful hearing it from the employees themselves. I personally found it a lot more beneficial when I went and spoke to them on a one-to-one basis after the presentation. The HR person gave really good advice on how the EY recruitment system works and what aspects they are looking for - it's slightly different to other firms I've applied for so this was very useful. Not sure it assisted with my degree studies but beneficial for beyond university.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was the first time the people had presented it, a bit of reading off the slides so sometimes it wasn't 100% smooth but I feel this didn't take away from the experience. I personally thought the 'get to know me' for each employee didn't add that much value, seeing as they had already mentioned parts of who they were and there background - things like 'guilty pleasure music' was not of interest to me personally but I guess this was more the benefit of younger students who had not interacted with EY before and hence the company wants to portray a fun image.

    3/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Really positive. The networking after the event proved much more useful to me but it was good to hear the employees chat through the service divisions as that prompted me to ask questions later on. Helped me pick a service line, and was able to have some questions regarding my summer internship answered, so a very positive and useful experience!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This was not really discussed in the presentation. They did mention briefly opportunities to go on training courses. I spoke to the consultants after and we discussed opportunities to do CIMA and other qualifications - might be worth having a section dedicated to training and development in the future. I'm aware of how much EY invests in its people, but not sure if the other students would have picked up on this if this was there first interaction.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The employees were useful in chatting through their "what a day in the life of" looks like. I think it might have been more useful to have visuals demonstrating what they do on a day-to-day basis. However, they did give examples on clients they worked with and that was interesting.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • They didn't explicitly talk about the culture itself but you got an idea. They mentioned team work a lot, the new recruitment process of 'strengths based assessment' is another clue of what their culture is like - very people focused.

    3/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I needed to decide on a service line to apply for and the options for summer internship. Upon listening to the employees and talking to them after, they have helped me to chose a service line which I will know apply for.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The event was on campus, so no expenses.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes - afterwards for a brief period of time. I was able to get all my questions answered but because the event was quite late people were quite keen to get on. Other official networking events are being help on campus.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Quite good - used initiative and spoke to the staff after. Some people may not have been comfortable to do so as it wasn't an official networking opportunity.

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • No this was not discussed.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, if they want to find more about the service lines it offers and what a professional services company does. A useful introduction into EY.
