The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at EY, it was not only challeging but devloped my technical and soft skills at each stage of the programme. I think the programme was well put together with social events and an emphasis on each individual enjoying their own experience.
I felt valued by my colleagues who treated me as a part of the team from the start of the internshp. I was invited to team meetings and contributed to ongoing projects. I was also frequently asked for my input and research.
I received a lot of support from my supervisors who ensured I was doing tasks which were worthwhile and also enjoyable. I was encouraged to speak my mind on things that I would prefer to do or projects I had particular interest in. The weekly meetings with the mentors were very valuable as we were able to discuss all aspects of the internship and update them on our progress. I also enjoyed the end of internship chat with the head of the department.
I was always busy with a range of different tasks, from short pieces of research to ongoing projects. It was a very important learning experience having to prioritise tasks and stick to deadlines. I was not busy every minute of the day so had the opportunity to do web based learning and attend knowledge sessions. I rarely worked extra long hours.
I was given a lot of responsiblity for the tasks I was given and the contributions to ongoing tasks. All the work I completed was appraised and therefore I felt responsible for producing work of a high standard. I presented to senior managers and also was responsible for creating a schedule for a work exprerience student.
I think the skills I developed will certainly be valuable in my career. My degree is a combined German and Managment degree and I think the internship will definitely help with the management side as I saw the theory in practice. I also think that the development of analysing and research skills will always be very useful.
The Company
The office was fairly quiet and everybody seemed to be busy with their projects but there was a lot of internal meetings where colleagues would group together to work on a task. The open plan office made it easy to approach colleagues about work and I liked the informal break out area. On the whole the atmosphere could be improved.
The internship was very well set up and the structure was very helpful as we had interim meetings and could easily track our own progress. We had the opportunity to meet our peers in the internship programme and in our smaller teams. Also we could join the EY groups which were varied and added to the feeling of being part of the company. I thought the structure gave us personal goals and deadlines to achieve them by.
We completed the web based learning which is helpful for career development and I was able to attend the knowledge sessions which developed my department specific knowledge. I think the first week of inductions were very useful in terms of personal devlopement and adapting to the work environment; in partiuclar the session on emotional resiliance and the talks from EY employees.

Working from home
Future employment at EY is very appealing as it seems like a place where personal and professional development is empahsised and the culture is very welcoming, placing great value on the individual. I enjoyed working with my team and the scope of work was very appealing. Also being able to take the accounting qualification will help career progression.
The Culture
The social side in my department was not exactly thriving but casual after work drinks was not uncommon. Overall, I think it was lacking in the internship programme, espcially in the smaller divisons where socials were not frequent. If there was another organised social for all interns it would have been better as people we met in the first couple of days,we probably wouldn't see again.
I live in London so did not have to pay any rent. I only paid for a travel which is the same cost as getting to university. Socialising in London is quite expensive but it is to be expected. I think the restaurants around the office were expensive especially eating there every day.
Working and living in London is ideal for the nightlife. There are a lot of clubs, bar and restaurants to pick from. Also transport links to the West End are very good.
Yes, there are all sorts of groups to join in London for every activity or interest. Apart from the EY groups, there are local sports clubs and groups for specialist hobbys.
