The Role
They try their best to get you started as fast as possible so that you can feel you contribution is tangible.
Compiling code is the most time-consuming thing sometimes so I would either read documentation relating to the work or just check my email and news. Otherwise, I was quite busy with coding and debugging.
I took change of implementing my own enhancements from the investigation stage to the live testing stage.
Coding skills developed at Metaswitch help hugely at university if you do coding projects. The coding standards you can used to make sure that your code is always maintainable, modular and easily understood by other fellow programmers.
The Company
Generally quiet place with the constant crackling of people typing. From time to time, we would have jokes floating around the office. Quite a pleasant place but it was not lively all the time.
Generally had something lined up all the time.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
If you enjoy programming and work well in your internship at Metaswitch networks, they're sure to come back for you since they are rapidly expanding.
The Culture
Interns are generally placed in company houses close to the office if they wish and this means constant interaction with people in a similar situation as you. We often had outings to the cinema, barbecue, banter on email all day.
Since it's Greater London, it's not quite as expensive as in Central London except if you travel to Central everyday anyway.
Non-existent I suppose. A few restaurants and cinema but not really in terms of nightclubs.
Lots of sports and social clubs
