The Role
The overall experience was great. The programme was well designed allowing students to choose which module they wanted to learn about. I liked the fact it felt personal to students as they could choose which areas they wanted to experience.
This can vary between departments. In all of my modules I felt valued by the majority of colleagues.
This placement is designed in a way that you will always have support and guidance from supervisors/managers. The regional training mentor is put in place to guide you through modules. There'll are also line managers and senior managers of each department who are also very supportive (this varies in each department) Finally there is the placement coordinator who is also very supportive and approachable if you need any advice or guidance.
Again, this depends on which department you choose. Each department is busy, some busier than others.
With the right support and guidance I was given tasks that held great responsibility.
The Company
Both offices I worked in were a very positive working environment. I felt that I connected well with all the teams I was exposed to. The majority of people I worked with were all very supportive and nice people to work alongside.
A great deal of thought goes into the placement programme, it's very well structured and managed. However initially entering some departments it was clear that they weren't too sure what to do with you as a placement student. (This varies between departments and managers)
It's evident the company invest a considerable amount of time and finance in their students. There were external training seminars, focus groups and regular national meetings to discuss our training. They were very keen on getting to know how students felt and what they could do to better the programme/training.
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Above 25 days holiday
The company seems keen to keep students within the business.
The Culture
We attended regular meetings with the students from other regions, these were always really fun and useful to catch up with the other students! There is normally a dinner and drinks night, which is a good way to socialise with other students and colleagues.
Glasgow isn't too expensive to live in.
Glasgow has a great nightlife scene with lots going on.
Unfortunately there were no outside of work activities.
