The Role
It was a really enjoyable experience! I developed my skill and gained first-hand experience on how it is to work on a professional services firm. By the end of it I received a graduate offer which I accepted. It was a good internship mainly because of the great environment that EY offers.
The work environment is great and you feel a part of it from the first day. Everyone was really friendly and always ready to help you. Each intern was assigned a counsellor (being in the manager/ senior manager rank) that provides you with guidance throughout the internship. Even though they are really busy they can always find time to speak to you if you have any problems.
I worked with three different teams. The guidance and support I got from two of them was excellent. My supervisor during one of the rotation did not have an ideal behavior since he was a bit inexperienced in managing people, but I strongly think he was the exception. Most of the managers I met were really friendly.
I was more busy as the internship progressed. I started by doing simpler tasks and moved on to more technical tasks. I was busy throughout my days and if I found myself with some free time EY offers some training resources you can complete. No matter how busy I was members of my team would tell me to go home at five or six o'clock on a daily basis.
I was given the same responsibilities as a graduate. The tasks I had to do were progressively harder but support was available throughout. My supervisors or managers were always available to explain the work I did not understand. By the last week I was speaking on my one with the client without any supervision.
Due to the exposure you are getting throughout the internship your interpersonal and communication skills are bound to be enhanced. You are bound to learn about the importance of being a client centric business and on how to use effective means of communication. I also went through some training material to learn about the industry background of each client I worked for.
The Company
Great atmosphere, everyone is extremely (suspiciously at first but then you realize it is genuine) friendly. There is a hot desk policy means that you get to meet people every day even if they are not in your team. There are monthly socials that every team goes to and as an intern or a graduate you get to go to more socials.
There was a good level of support throughout the internship. There were some really good socials that were organised by the student recruitment team during the induction week. But some of the talks that occurred during the induction days were less than useful. This may be my personal opinion because I had the experience of working in a company before joining EY but I did not find talks like "how to write an email" really useful.
As an intern the best investment you can get is to gain an insight on the job itself and receive a graduate offer. EY provides you with both. If you come back as a graduate EY invests in you with having you chartered, you get an ACA or a similar qualification depending on your department.

They are really appealing I am going to go back as a graduate. The salary and the company perks are brilliant. The people are great and welcoming. And the ACA is a really good qualification to have in the beginning of your career. If you are looking for a job in London that has a good work-life balance EY is for you.
