    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The job was really enjoyable. You rotate half way through your placement so you get to experience two different roles which means you don't get bored.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Extremely valued. They saw me as another member of the team, and it didn't matter that I was a placement student. You become an 'expert' at what you're doing and your colleagues will come to you for guidance and information if they're dont know themselves.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was always someone to give you help if you're struggling. As well as a buddy within your team you're also given a mentor who you can go to for advice if you don't feel like you can ask a team member or manager.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • You get pretty busy after the first few weeks of the placement. You're given the same work as a graduate or any other team member so there's always something to do. When you don't have daily tasks to do you're encourouged to come up with solutions to inefficiencies that you pick up on. To me, being busy was good as it meant the day flew by.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As previously mention you get a lot of responsibility. But it allows you to prove to your manager that you're able to fit in and work under pressure. I was leading projects with people from all over the world and of all different levels within the company.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The knowledge you get isn't directly correlated with what you're studying in uni, but you're fully trained for if you're to go back after graduating. I was also talking with clients of large asset managers with is invaluable experience.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a good atmosphere. Everyone there was really nice and easy to get on with. We went out for drinks at least once a week so got to know people really well which meant that working with them was a lot easier. You do have to know when to get you're head down and work as a lot of the work you do is intense and pressured.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Reasonably good. They hold sessions throughout the first 6 weeks whilst the summer interns are also there which is good for meeting people and also getting a basic understanding of the company. After that you're just doing a day to day job within you're team and there aren't many other events for the placement students. (Apart from the odd night out funded by GS)

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The fact that you're essentially doing the same job as a grad shows that they're investing in you and expecting you to come back once you graduate. The majority of people get offered a grad job as long as you've done a good job whilst there.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Really good. To have GS on your CV is a great thing to have. You're also able to move up the company pretty quickly if you're good at what you do. And as you get promoted the salary will also increase quickly.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes! Throughout the first few weeks they're organised by GS to give you the opportunity to meet people. All the placement students were really close and we got together often for drinks. Even if you're not meeting up with other students you'll be going out with you're team.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As you're based in central london it's pretty pricey. Housing was around 600/700 a month without bills and going out for drinks is double the price as back home and uni. But you get paid a very decent wage so you can afford to go out often enough.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in central London is extremely good. There's a great mixture of bars near work, and then also all the big clubs. It is expensive but definitely worth it now and again.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. I played 6 a side football with a work team which was another way to get to know people. I also had team meals/nights out on the weekend which was good for building relationships. You also get days off work to participate in community and charity events.

    4/5
