The Role
The placement has been good, although more technical engineering work would have improved it further as I find the work my team do very interesting.
As I work in a small office I was able to integrate well and give them some knowledge of my background so they could appreciate why I was here.
My manager was absolutely fantastic - always available for a chat or some feedback and very approachable.
When working within National Grid I always had some work that I could do. However, I spent 2 weeks working with a contractor to get some experience and they did not have anything for us to do when people were too busy to spend time with us.
We were given responsibility of our own project - we could time manage it and organise it as we felt fit as long as we met any milestone deadlines that were set.
I have gained a much greater appreciation of the work done by Network Mapping but was not really given any specific training as part of this placement.
The Company
As I worked in an office with only 7 other people, I was able to get to know everyone - very friendly atmosphere.
There were some issues with tax being incorrectly taken from us but the actual placement was well set up and I had no major issues!
I never received any direct training or development but I did have the opportunity to do intitial, interim and final placement reviews which were good to discuss progress and areas for development.

National Travel
I have very much enjoyed my placement but I think I need a placement with much more technical engineering to confirm a future with the company. I am very much undecided at this stage.
The Culture
Could not fault the social side of my placement. Nine students were placed in Leeds and so there were plently of people to spend time with outside of work.
The cost of accomodation was fine and general living costs were pretty average.
Leeds had great nightlife and so did the Headingly area where we lived for the 8 weeks.
There were not many work activities as it was a small office but there were activities around Leeds that you could get involved in if you wished to!
